Carmax warranty?

Anyone get the Carmax warranty when buying an older 4Runner - I'm looking at a 97 with 52K, and don't quite have the "mechanical knowhow" to know if their warranty really covers the things that break. Looking at the 3 yr./36,000 warranty for $1,450 - thanks for any thoughts or if anyone has looked at this before -- thanks

EVEN IF ITS AT DEALERSHIP pay a mechanic you can trust to come look at it.

here's what i wish i did after that:

if he ok's it, buy it with no warranty.. spend $1450 on mods :)

i bought a warranty with my used t4r, and only used the equivalent sum of about 50% of the cost of the warranty. so i basically paid double for all work done to her till she hit 60K....

thanks lee

thanks -- luckily I have a buddy that is a mechanic at the local Toyota dealeship and I was going to get him to look at it also - Carmax said I can't get someone to put it on a lift until I buy it (insurance reasons, yada, yada, yada), but I have a 5 day return, so I was going to have him look at it during that five days, and see what he thinks.

Thats the first I have heard of a dealer not allowing you to have someone check out the vehicle before you buy it. That fact itsself makes me wonder whats wrong with the vehicle. They give you a test drive. Test drive it and have him look at it at the sometime. I would have bought it had they not told you that he could not look at it before. Sounds fishy! I decided not to get the extra warrenty with mine I could do a lot have work before I ate up the extra cost. Plus thats why a bought a T4R so I dont have to fix it all the time.
