Carpet Color advice needed

So I accidentally left my sunroof open last week while hiking, and my interior got soaked. The car smelled awfully musty last week, and when I finally got some time to clean it this weekend, I found a big patch of mold in the passenger rear wheel well. I pulled the carpet out, and it is definitely what was smelling. I have decided to just replace it instead of trying to clean it.

Does anyone know the closest color to the tan carpet? I am looking here: 96-02 Toyota 4Runner Carpet Passenger Area Only 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002

Looking at the samples they show, it appears that the medium beige or the medium doeskin is closest, but it is hard to tell on a monitor. I am curious if anyone has used them before, and if they got a tan color, which was it and how well did it match?

Yeah, I saw that. I was hoping to be able to get this all done pretty quickly instead of waiting 7 days for the samples,then 7 more for the carpet. Hoping someone could save me the time. I ordered the samples anyway. I'll post up which matches best.

Maybe you could see if any of the 4runners being parted in the for sale section have a nice carpet in case you havent already considered that. Good luck finding a color match, regularly having a surfboard and wetsuit in the back of mine has definitely also given mine quite the funk smell

Bummer about the soaked interior.. I know the feeling lol. I'm thinking that medium doeskin color from the plush cut is the closest to the tan interior. From the ultra plush I'm thinking maybe cream. Are you considering adding the mass backing? Probably would be a good investment. Good luck.

Yeah, I thought about that, but I don't want to spend much money since every time I remove something, I find copious amounts of rust. This thing may rust out from under me any time... I do plan on getting that company's "mass backing" product, which is a vinyl backing they mold onto it to dampen noise and vibration. Hopefully that will help, and it's only $54 more, which is alot less than I'd spend on dynamat or something similar. I also seem to remember someone putting carpet padding underneath their carpet for the same purpose; I wonder if I could do that.

I just replaced the carpet front and rear (1998 4runner Oak interior) with SANDSTONE. It is almost an exact match to the original Oak. Order a sample because if you order the carpet and don't like the color and return it for that reason they will charge you a 20-25% restocking fee. None of the other colors were even close to the original oak. I got the "mass backed" standard carpet and am ecstatic with the results.

Thanks for the advice, the sandstone looked more grey than tan, so I don't think I even ordered a sample of it. Bummer. Oh well, I'll see what the samples I did order look like.

As to color, I always hated the tan and so I switched to their "Jade Green" that goes perfectly with my IJM car. Just something to think about:

In real life, it looks quite luxurious. Everyone gave it positive reviews.

Hmmm, that is quite a thought, though it would clash with my husky liners. The dark would look nicer though, shows less dirt. I'll have to think about that.

There are two sides to that. The crud that floats in is mostly light colored, so you see it more. What I hope it shows less is that ground-in blackness that happens over time. It's been in almost a year and still looks new.

9577 Medium Dark Oak is what's recommended as a stock replacement I ordered the 4640 Dark Saddle. It's more of a Golden Brown. It's darker & shows less dirt. (sorry, no pics here on my work PC)

Edit: Also this site is too expensive, I ordered from OC Auto Carpets with the thicker backing.

Here is the old carpet, it's almost faded to a Grey.
Below is the new carpet, much thicker & softer than stock & I ordered it with the mass backing for comfort & sound deadening.
It matches the Oak interior nicely.
