Carpeting back cargo interior wheel wells

Has anybody done or though about carpeting over the interior wheel wells in the cargo/back area? I'd like some ideas on how to accomplish this. It would be nice to be able to Velcro things to the sides on those and maybe inside those pesky little trays that are on top of the wheel wells as well. I place things in there and they just rattle around.

I have a 5th Gen with no third row seat, BTW. Thanks in advance

I don't think it would look very good to do the whole thing. Maybe just add carpet in the trays and see how that works.

I added a small piece of adhesive backed felt in the trays, trimmed to fit. No more rattle.

That's an excellent idea. I will try that.

I don't think it would look very good to do the whole thing. Maybe just add carpet in the trays and see how that works.

I know it wouldn't look that appeasing but I was thinking it would help load for camping as it would help the fact that things can rub, scratch the side walls there. But I like the adding something in just the trays. I will for sure do that ASAP

Storing gear in the back

For camping I have all my gear in boxes and duffle bags. Soft stuff goes against the wheel wells. I have a canvas tool bag I got at OSH for all the tools, flashlights, tape measure, ropes and line that I carry all the time. It goes on the floor and keeps the clutter organized. I have a few utility, grocery style canvas and cloth bags for hats, a blanket, ropes and other stuff I want handy wherever I go (hiking and all). Jumper cables go in a small canvas tool bag. I keep a canvas tarp on the floor to protect the carpet. A rug, moving blanket or heavy wool blanket work just as well. For those trays I put soft, quiet stuff in them: gloves, paper towels, sun screen in a zip lock bag. The stick on felt posted above is a good idea too. I keep a gallon of clean wash water in an old jug that has a spout for washing up after mountain bike rides. Soapbox in the back lower tray.

Most of these things are in my T4R all the time in addition to several jugs of drinking water.
