Cat-back exhaust on a 97

So the muffler on my 97 has past its prime and began to rot. Along with that the tailpipe has rotted off...Time to be replace the cat-back. Do any of you have any reccomendations for the 2.7? Would i be better of just sticking with a domestic stock replacement or would something like a flowmaster be worth it? Also, does anybody know what a fair price would be with parts, labor, and install? ..I was quoted $440 plus tax from the local muffler shop and a whopping $686 from Midas. Both quotes were for a domestic stock replacement. Any help is appreciated!

Theres one on ebay that ive had my eye on since my muffler has something rattling inside. I wont be replacing it anything soon though.

I just had the Borla cat back installed a few weeks ago...so far I am loving it!

$400 is too much to pay for a flowmaster.

The muffler itself should only cost $150 + price of pipe + 2 hr labor...

I think you should be able to find something for $350 depending on where you live.

I am running a flowmaster with a Tundra resonance silencer.

There arent to many local shops that do mandrel bending, none around me at least.
Plus I think this system is stainless compared to the what your local midas would use is most likely not.

Id spend the 400 instead

Well here in San Diego there are plenty of truck shops that will upgrade your exhaust using custom pipe and a flowmaster or supersprint muffler + a chrome tip.

I think full cat back exhausts are also great and I had one on my BMW but I am not sure if they are necessary on a 4Runner. A Borla is $650+ shipped right? Installing it will be another $75 - $150 and I just think the money can be better spent on other upgrades.

Ya I would not spend 650 on a catback, but under 400 maybe...

I had the same problem on my '99. I went down to the local muffler shop and for $165 + tax they replaced from the cats back with a magnaflow muffler and pipe.
