Cat Back Vs. Free Flowing Muffler

I am wanting to add a catback to my rig, but had a questions about a catback system versus a free flowing muffler. If I am correct the performance between the two are the same and the only difference would be in the cost. Am I correct? I can't think of any performance differences between the two. Thoughts?

Do you mean a catback system, as in a cat, muffler and all the tubing?

In that case you would probably get a little more out of the system as opposed to just the muffler.

Catback, as everything behind the catalytic converter. I was under the impression that you just got a new muffler and tubbing. At this moment I am leaving headers and everything else the same.

I have looked around and not too many companies make a cat back exhaust system for 3rd gen runners. TRD makes one, but it is around $600 for a muffler and bigger piping. A new free flowing muffler would be around $200 installed. I know the TRD would look nicer and newer, but I would expect the performance gains would be fairly similar.

With a cat back you will most likely get larger diameter piping, which will flow better as well. You also get a nice new shiny tip:p. There isn't much improvement with a catback or a new muffler unless you are supercharged, Except for the sound of course:)
