cat convert

08' sport runner, 138 k. no issues at all aside from usual maintenance. i see the check engine light, VSD, slip indicator is a common report for various issues. had this occur 3 days ago, got it checked at dealership, recommended replace cat convert. filled the tank, checked gas cap. now, 3 days later lights have gone off. i need NYS emissions check, dealership cannot do this unless i replace cat convert. my question is, if this is the reasoning behind indicators coming on, shouldn't it remain on until it is fixed? truck runs great, no funky smells/noises. ive read cat convert should last life of vehicle, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. should i replace or get opinion elsewhere?

Did the dealership tell you what code they pulled? I definitely wouldn't replace the cat unless you absolutely have to, and if the lights went out on their own when you checked the gas cap I'd just go have it inspected now. Once the lights go out on their own the OBDII system should pass.
