CB Antenna mounting and wiring

I have an old K40 antenna I used 17 years ago when I came out to CA. http://www.das-roadpro.com/k40/k40antenna.asp
It was very easy to mount on my '73 Nova- used the edge of the trunk lid nearest the rear window. I am not sure how to mount it on my '01 4R. I think I can get a magnetic mount but am wondering how others have done it. Also the routing of the coax is an issue. On the Nova it just went through the trunk/rear seats. I suppose I could mount it on the hood near the radio antenna. Is it hard to route anything through the engine compartment into the cabin? (coax)

ive got a cheap radio shack magnet mount one and i put it on there just behind the roof rack and ran it through the rear passenger door... ill take some pics of it tomorrow after i get her all cut and glazed up...

heres my ghetto rigged temporary cb...

antenna on the roof run through the rack...

then run into the rear passenger door

then under the rear floormat and run along the console on the passengers side

then to the hand-me-down cb that my buddy gave me out of his new truck because he wasnt gonna use it, and the idiot before him painted it red...it is held on there with velcro...

and for temporary use i have a little 12v adapter that the wires go into and i have it plugged into a custom little 3 prong 12 volt outlet...

good place to put the mic..

looks alright boy that cb is rough a uniden pro510xl fits in the ash tray spot pretty nice

like i said, just temporary. the antenna was on sale for 25 bucks at radioshack and the little 12v power thing was 6 bucks. the cb and mic was free. cb works fine, the idiot just painted it. ill eventually hit it with some black paint to make it look better, but i dont really care about how it looks as long as it works... i want a wilson 5000 though....

you can also mount it on the front driver side and run it thru the firewall where the fuse wires etc come thru...

I just had a thought of making a bracket like posted above- but making it retractable somehow so when not in use you don't see it. Would prefer to go through the firewall with the wiring. Will post back w/ ideas or drawings.

I actually mounted mine with no external holes. I mounted the antenna to the rear bumper using an existing hole (steel bumber), ran the coax thru the taillight. I ran power from the battery to a fuse block above the right front tire and ran the wire thru the same hole as the radio antenna. I mounted the CB on the rear ashtray so I can reach back and grab the mic. For some reason I was determined to do this without any new holes.

Good job ninja! :vader: Post some pics if you can. So you ran the coax through taillight then followed wiring to front? Was it all interior or does the taillight wiring move along the exterior? Was it difficult? I like this idea too- though might not get as good range compared to mounting on the roof or hood. I also prefer to not make new holes or compromise seals if possible.
