CB Antenna mounting locations - idea request!

FoneRunner

I finally picked up my 4 foot Firestik and I'm scouting locations to mount it. There's a ton of information about the why's and how's on the Firestik website...more than I could read without falling asleep! What I want to see is some of your ideas on mounting points and the performance associated with your decisions....so let's see some CB antennas!

best spot to put them besides the roof

Next to the tailight...

Sorry, but thats been done and it gets in the way everytime,

FoneRunner goes into his tailgate way too often for work stuff to move his antenna everytime,

if you wanted to put a 2' on the roof, maybe... I think thats what LINY did...

4' goes best on the front bumper...

3' best on the hood

2' or 1' on the roof

but thats just my opinion. :trophy: ... my award winning opinion! :D

lol wow i read this earlier and didnt even notice that. Ya i have mine mounted on the tail light guard but on the right side of the runner so its not in the way of the hatch.

The best spot you can put it is dead center roof, use an nmo mount (I like Larsen) and an nmo 27 antenna for best performance. Not sure if a firestik can be put on an nmo or not. Most people don't like putting it in their roof but it makes for some great signals. The antenna and it's mount is by far more important than the radio.

But that's just my 2 cents

I agree that the roof is the best place, but nobody wants to make holes in the roof...least of all me. So can you or should you mount it to the roof rails? What about a roof basket type mount? Any pics of such a mount? Opinions?

A magnetic mount would work good in the top. Thats where I am planning to put one on mine. I have played with CBs on my Bronco and once I finally put it directly on top of the cab the reception improved so much. I won't drill holes in my 4runner, so a mag mount is what I am stuck with. Looking to get a HAM radio, but that will be a hand held.

magnet mounts suck on trails....ask shon

i like where mine is but not everyone has a plate bumper

AND NO!! DO NOT GO with the stupid magnet mounts! LOL they dont stick very well, they have to be on a flat surface and you hit a branch and it will end up on the side of your car or something... in my case, whacking me in the arm multiple times a trail...
plus the "casing" around the magnet that protects your paint and stuff will rip and deteriorate til the magnet is on you paint with no protection. I didnt even touch mine, it never moved and it fell apart and ripped just being on the car.

Once I got the Firestik, I drilled a hole in my bumper, I was gonna get some angled washers or sand some down to even out and make the surface flat, but I decided I liked it at an angle,

its out of my view and doesnt bug me, plus, I think it demands more attention, looks way tougher.

:bravo::bravo::bravo::bravo::bravo::bravo:

see even the smilies like my new one!

How about somebody pull out their photoshop and put a 4 foot firestik on different spots on my rig...I was thinking about maybe mounted to the bumper just behind the back fender flare so it won't block the rear hatch...any takers?

Hey Liny! What size antenna did you mount up there on the roof and how did you route the wiring back into the truck?
