CB in the ashtray write up?

I've searched the forum but can't find what I'm looking for. I know many have done this mod. I'm putting a Uniden Pro520xl in the ash tray slot of my 99 SR5 but I can't seem to find a detailed write up on how to install it. Specifically, how to mount it/secure it in there. What are you all using to do this? I imagine some sort of bracket and screws? And what exactly do I need to dremel out of there?

Anyone have pics or details?

Any words of advice before I get started?

I guess my main concern is the secure mounting method......

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

I just used cable tie's and never had a issue. I just cut out the back of the ash tray hole and left the top to use to cable tie it to.

double sided tape they sell at the truck stops by the cb's. just put a strip on both the white rails and your good. you would have to pull Very hard to get mine out.

Thank you for the response.

Do you recall what the top of the slot looks like? Is it flat and smooth? I'm wondering if a wide and long super duper strength strip of velcro would work. If not, I suppose I can use zip ties. I'm thinking I probably won't have enough room in there to use a bracket.

I think I'm going to go slow and do a detailed write up with specific pics since there doesn't seem to be one.

Not sure what it look's like one the 3rd gen, sense mine is a 2nd gen. I don't see why velcro wouldn't work, but if it get's hot the velcro lose's it's stick.

I had that same radio installed in my Tacoma. I just shoved it in there and it didn't move an inch. No Tape or velcro required. It was wedged in there pretty good. It stuck out about 1.5", but I could deal with that.

i have a cobra 19 and it fits snug in there, the mount for the ash tray was compressed (if u get what i mean) and so it was a tight fit so the cb aint goin no where. And i also used so super glue and weather stiping to it wont rattle just to be safe! But make sure you keep the CB out a lil so u can put the HVAC panel back on bc the antenna cable will hit the back wall and u wont be able to close it!

I took my trim piece off, removed the ashtray slide assembly (two screws) and took a hacksaw to the back of the area (it narrows as it goes in) Havnt secured it with anything yet, but it says in place pretty well. Only complaint is i have to bend over to see the channel.

Although I haven't done mine yet, I think I'll do the double-sided tape to keep it from vibrating. Seems like too tight of an area for a bracket for sure.
