CB Radio Installed

Just wanted to show off my new cb radio. I instaled it earlier today with a friends help. It was rediculiously simple. I got a Cobra 19 from walmart and a glass mounted antenna from radio shack. I ran the radio straight to the battery similar to how I wired my lights on top. It works pretty good. I will post pictures soon. I am just glad to have a cb radio, as I have wanted one since I was a child.

I also have a CB radio in my 4Runner ($99 Radio Shack model). What I did is not quite as "neat" as your little set-up, though. I took a coat hanger and 'jury rigged' it with a few bends to hang onto the right side of the console (where yours is) - without having to drill or use any glue. I put a folded napkin underneath the metal of the hanger so that my console won't get scratched.

I put on a 12v cigar lighter plug where the (+) and (-) wires end, so that I can plug it in on the rare occasion I decide to use it {mostly on long trips}. My antenna is a magnet-mount that is centered in front of the first roof luggage bar. I fed the wire through the weather stripping on the left-rear door. I can pop it off anytime I need to go through a car wash or enter a parking deck, without having to be concerned about it snapping off.

If I get a chance tomorrow, I may snap a pic and post it here. Your set-up looks great. My CB radio is great on long trips, as I used it during two trips to Michigan and one to upstate NY.

i wish I could give you a shot of me doing something cool off-road, but there are few such opprotunities in the middle of Kansas. I do have a trip to the rockies planned this summer, and plan on taking a lot of pictures. Plus I get to really test out all my new mods.

Actually, I am a trucker - and I don't even have a CB in my rig. I only drive about 100 to 120 miles from my terminal and my truck has a speed governor on it (72 mph), so having a CB in it is pointless.

Anyway, there are so many "potty mouths" on the airwaves that it gets old very quickly. When I take long trips in my 4Runner, I'll use the CB for "bear alerts" so I know best when to watch my lead foot.

Is that a Texas license plate in Kansas? (I don't think KS uses front tags anyway, but I could be wrong.)

Is Kansas a state yet? LOL!! Just kidding......I lived in Lawrence when I was a kid - 35 years ago. I also lived near Leavenworth when my dad was stationed there with the US Army.

Gawd, do I ever feel old.

They are KC 26's. I got the driving light kit for $100.00 which included the lights, two extra sets of lenses, and the wiring kit. I ran the wired in through the rear driver side door.

yes, this should give you an idea, basically just wrapped the wires in electrical tape so they would be less obvious. I guess the best way to run the wires would be through the back hatch and then up through the interior, but I like the way this worked.

CB Radio Installation


Here are a few photos of my CB radio installation. It is a 'cheapo' Radio Shack unit that I hooked up via a 12v cigar lighter plug. My antenna is also from Radio Shack & is a magnetic-mount so that I can easily remove it anytime. Since my 4Runner is leased, I did not want to drill holes or alter the vehicle's interior in any way.

Note: Since these photos were taken, I have put a better folded napkin in place, so as to better protect the grey plastic part of the center console.

CB radio hangs onto the center console - folded napkin to prevent wire hanger bracket from scratching the plastic.

Roof-mounted CB antenna with cable routed through the left-rear door weatherstripping.

Another view from a bit farther away. Notice that the radio does not interfere with the comfort or space of the passenger.
