CB Radio Question

Have a question for those of you who use CB's and have some knowledge of them. I have a midland CB hooked up and all works well. SWR is a 1:2 so it is tunned in pretty well. Problem is, when I hold down the button on the mic to transmit all the people can here on the other end is a screeching sound. How do I fix this or what is causing this?

Holding the mic to close to the speaker is one cause of this.

CB is mounted on the passenger side of the truck on the side of the center console and I obviously use the mic from the driver seat..... Still too close?

Buddy said it sounds like I have a bunch of chickens in the backseat

I think that is still to close, my buddy had it mounted there and it was doing that to him to.

I bought a firestick whip that has a knob to tune it. It was very simple. I am not sure what model tuner I have but will check and post it tonight.

If, when you are tuning it, it jumps off the end of the scale your CB antenna is probably not grounded very well. I ran into that problem with my buddies 4Runner.

when I first started to tune it the SWR was telling me my antenna was too short, so I lengthened it, I have a tunable tip firstick, now channels 1,19,40 all give me the same swr reading. so know Im confused, I even shortened the antenna back to where it was and am getting the same reading on all 3 channels

Neb here, not sure what a power mic or overmodulating is. However i am using the mic that came with the midland cb i am using.

ah, okay, that's not it, then -

unless you modded your radio and cut limiters or turned up VR for more modulation?

Definitely not, i would not even know where to start lol. I think at this point i am just going to rid that CB out and start over with a better model.

Where is your reading at?

There's probably something wrong with the mic or your radio. The speaker is off when you are transmitting so there is no feedback possible.

I too think the radio is shot so when I am done bending over and paying for my tags I will go pick up another CB :thanks:
