CB radio "scan".. opinion?

i use my scan and made friends with some wild hillbilly that goes by "666"... the guys on there everyday all day hooting and hollering about something...usually something about bald eagles and freedom.... every now and again i key in just to rile him up a bit, it's great....i love my scan feature on both ham and CB, just drive around listening to whatever pops up and with my ham i play around with a bit of direction finding/fox hunting on occasion just to see....you'd be really surprised about some of the things I've heard just dropping in on frequencies...really the scan feature lets me have fun with my radio instead of it just being another working tool in my rig...which is what it is...but it doesn't mean i can't have fun too!
ham's great as well, program all of the police channels in there run scan through the memory and pick up speed traps and busted drug deals, it's fun to hear the things people are doing on the roads and if they have warrants or the rest...saved me a few speeding tickets and has provided great entertainment when just waiting in a parking lot for the wife or something...personally i just have to much fun with scan features to ever buy ham or cb without 'em....
side note, why don't they sell ham/cb radio's ..but only to people who have a license to operate? not saying the should make a cb/ham radio but a ham/cb radio, if that makes sense....those cheesy 10 meter deals aren't attractive...

You ever pick up this black guy on CB channel 6 who just talks allllll daayyyyy loonnnnggg about being "the king of the south" ? I think he's transmitting out of St. Louis. It's so annoying... I stay away from channel 6 lol
What channel is the "666" guy on? I think I might have picked up his rambling before.

I have all my area Police/Fire/EMS/Govenment/some businesses frequencies programmed in my ham.
..As far as a ham and cb in the same radio, I think the closest you can get is thhe Yaesu 857d. I think you would have to modify it to work outside the ham bands. Not that it is a huge deal :tongue1:

No matter where you go, there is always that guy who just hollers and rambles on about nothing. Just like there is always that guy in every town who has an old school bus in his back yard. Most of the time it's probably the same guy...

Yeah I think I have heard that guy here in Portland on occasion. I don't get why people run these illegal high powered cb radios. Maybe they just can't pass a ham exam, where you can do that stuff legally.

I have one, doesn't mean I use it. haha It is nice to have when you do need it though.
PA is the best feature for many reasons :eyebrows:

What do you use instead? In the deserts in the west it is our only option. You are miles from cell phone service. This is the only way we can comunicate between the vehicles in our group.

Ham radio, best way to go by far. Your range is much wider and your audio is so much better when using FM (CB is AM).
Cb is only 4 watts of output. I run 50 watts VHF and 45 watts on UHF.
