CBI Ditch Light Brackets - Not Fitting

Went to install the CBI ditch light brackets last night and my hood will no longer close flush with the vehicle. Just wondering if any others have had similar issues, and if so did you just leave it as is or do some trimming to plastic trim piece beneath. Or maybe I am an idiot and am installing them incorrectly.

I searched, but everything I found seemed to be more 4th Gen specific, which mount differently to the vehicle.

Hey Harko - I think I was the first person to protype the 5th Gen Brackets - what you are describing is not uncommon. If you have a large gap, you are likely to have an issue, but even installed correctly, there is a tinnny difference in the gap size. My hood still closes safely, and it has settled to the point of being unnoticeable to me. I am not sure if anyone has gotten it to sit perfectly flush, and I am not sure if we know why. As far as I can tell, it really doesn't come into contact with anything other than a very small corner of the plastic trim between the hood and windshield. I believe the contact is only on the drivers side of the hood.

Do you have any photos of the gap? This is what mine looks like - if you go to Flickr you can zoom in. Very minimal. But defiantly something I noticed immediately when I installed them. Either the little trimming I did, or the weight just settled. Never look twice now.

Hey - thanks for the reply. I don't have any pictures yet. It was late last night and I removed them when I saw the rubbing. Are yours installed with the CBI bracket sitting between the hood and the hood lift support or is the bracket sitting on top of the hood lift support? (Hope that made sense)
 
I have them installed (sandwiched between the hood and hood support) and the gap bugged me at first too. I took some material off the back face with a dremel where the bracket made contact with the plastic rain channel. It only improved it slightly. To be honest I hardly notice it now.
 
I had issues and am talking to Nathan. I had at least a 1/2" gap and my passenger side, when I closed to test, left a small crease in the hood at the point of contact - not that noticeable but at the right angle it is clear.

I tried to alter the Passenger bracket to make it work but just couldn't get it right...there appears to be more than enough room to make it work and not touch.
 
Obviously my gap is not as significant as the sounds of what you guys are experiencing.

From the bottom, it should go Bracket, Hood Strut, Hood. You should not sandwich them.

Same here bud, I am actually contemplating just taking the darned things off and moving the lights to the bumper, in my personal opinion this product should not be advertised for the 5th gen (unless there are people using it with no problems)....... as it seems like an after though.....

And these pictures below are with me having push down hard enough to try to close the GAP, and as my friend [MENTION=632]toyo[/MENTION] pointed out the other day it messed with the window cowling so bad on the driver side that it pushed it down from the windshield... (I'll share a pic later on that).

Yah that is substantial. I barely did anything remotely considered trimming. Shaved a little plastic with a utility knife haha -
 
I traced around my brackets with a marker and just cut the cowling out with the dremel. The hood not being perfectly flush bugged me more then me cutting into my plastic cowling....
 
Same issue for me. I've got about half an inch now. I will do some trimming this weekend to hopefully help. Can't tell well from this picture.20141010_130530_1.jpg

Ouch - those gaps are brutal! I'm in the market but will definitely be holding off until they figure it out. You shouldn't have to spend your cash and fab on top of it.
