CBI Dual Swing-Out Rear Bumper Install (Part 1 & 2)

Hey Dudes,

I installed a CBI Dual Swing-Out Rear Bumper on my 98 4runner with the help of [MENTION=102606]infamousRNR[/MENTION]. Part 1 shows how to install the base bumper whether you have the plate or hybrid model and Part 2 will cover showing how to install the swing-outs, spare tire carrier, tray table, jerry can holder, hi-lift jack and wire the license plate light.

You will need to be patient my friend. Their business is exploding. The front bumper was readily available. The rear bumper has a wait of around 8-10 weeks. I was told over the last year and a half, they went from a company making around 4 bumpers a week to around 40 bumpers a week.

I worked a shitload of overtime last summer fighting wildland fires throughout California. I was in Santa Barbara, Goleta, Ventura and Modoc County way up close to the Oregon border.

So, no, the YouTube channel definitely didn't fund these purchases. This was purely me working a bunch of extra shifts. This year I hope to be home more. I'll have less play money but more free time for adventures.

I like the way that these rear bumpers look and how nicely the hitch is integrated. Do you lose the ability to use the spare tire in the stock location if you don't add the swing out?

Also, just a FYI- the silver zinc coated bolts that you were pointing to ( that have the '8.8' stamped into the heads ) are a metric bolt, that's what the 8.8 indicates. It's the metric "class" spec for the bolt, which is roughly equivalent to a SAE class 5 bolt.

I'm so envious of of those left coast, rust free trucks. I'd be too paranoid to attempt to remove any of my rear bumper mounting hardware, I'm sure that I'd see sheet metal come off with the bolts. :thumb:

Na, you'd just be snapping bolts & studs. I've had mine off twice already, not fun. Lots of WD40 a week in advance. LOL

You would only lose the ability of using the spare tire location by running a tire too big to fit in there. The bumper design wouldn't hinder a normal sized spare at all from what I can see. If anything, you have more room with this bumper.

Thanks for the bolt lesson. I guess I made some assumptions when I saw some of the fasteners were SAE like the allen head bolts.

Yeah, I guess we're pretty lucky to not have the salted road rust issues.

Well, not meaning to cut your overtime, but I really hope you don't need to work so much of it this year. Wildfire is scary business and there's been way too much of it lately (I have a place on the east side of the Cascades, it's always on my mind in summertime!)

I’d be interested in the center and right side. Left side is dent free, rest is dented inward by previous owner.

CBI Duel Swingout??? Is this custom or brand new? I was just out on their site, and I didn't even see these options (unless I wasn't looking in the right area). All I saw was the same setup as I have.
