CBI Offroad bumper damage

Anybody had any issues with bumpers from CBI arriving damaged? I received mine Friday and the top part of the bumper had scratches on it from lack of protection. The brand new powder coating had been taken off along the outer edge of the bumper due to something making contact with it during shipping. They wrapped the wings of the bumper really well but why would you not continue it along the whole bumper. It's frustrating that after all the money I paid and waiting on it since the beginning of June it arrives damaged all for the sake of a few bucks of plastic wrap. Pics below. Anybody have any advise on how I should proceed? I had the delivery guy document the damage and start a claim number before I signed for it. Sorry for that damage.

Call up CBI for a credit of the powder coating. I would just install it and touch it up with a rattle can.

But It looks like the damage is very minimal. Its an off road bumper you will cause damage to it one way or the other by wheeling your rig.

Just install it and don't look back.

Yea they definitely under did the wrapping. But I'm sure all companies that ship bumpers do the same. It's both CBI and the freight company who are at fault. CBI could have done a better job at packing, but freight companies don't give a shit when they are loading and unloading. My company has had to deal with damages due to poor handling as well. No matter how well you protect the shipment it seems like they will find a way to shit on it.

I just received mine about two weeks ago. It had scratches and damage to the powder coat in places. One spot already shows some surface rust. I don't know how yours was wrapped for shipping but mine was only wrapped on the sides with the whole middle exposed. I figure it's just going to get nicked and scratched anyway when on the trails but when it's brand new like that, I feel it shouldn't have any flaws.

Call CBI, just tell them what happened, provide pictures, and hopefully they will refund you for the PC, then just touch up with a rattle can. It's going to get scratched eventually afterall.

That's what I'm assuming it is. It is definitely raised and you can feel it.

I know it might get some damage from trails but this damage is on the top of the bumper. It's clearly visible and not an area that could be damaged from the trail.

If you guys are talking about the horizontal line that is the back side of one of the welded joints I think. Mine has some areas like that which are simply where a weld was made. Once mounted on the truck I never even notice them though.

Its not an air bubble, TXBonds is right. That is a mark from proper penetration from the weld on the back of that plate. Anything welded properly will have this. The scratches suck though, neither of my CBI bumpers showed up without damage either. Whatever, the rocks have done a lot worse.

Half that top one will be covered up by the bumper skin and I'll probably end up putting non skid tape on the other half myself but... That is kind of messed up.

I mean yeah, I plan on putting some trail damage on it but any damage to it I'd rather put there myself

No kidding, For the price we pay for these bumpers, they should show up looking perfect.

Nathan emailed me back today and said they will have the shipping company pick it back up and return it to them. Guess I will wait and see what happens. I'm definitely going to request the entire bumper be wrapped.

It looks to me as though they protected the bumper fairly well, if I was worried about side, bottom, front, back impact. The only thing missing is top protection, and I would imagine they didn't expect the shipping company to stack things on-top, which looks to be where most damage came from.

This is a fail by the shipping company, and more so then not they won't take blame for their poor delivery ( they rather blame poor packaging) been there done that!

Good on CBI to take back the bumper, as a company you can't always make things go as planned, but you can always make things right. I'd do business with them!

The wait continues...I agree that an unblemished product should show up at your door, here's to hoping the next one is perfect.

Most places would charge close to that to strip that bumper and coat it again.

Thanks NateMob. I agree and don't know any local powder coating companies, at least ones I would trust. I'm hoping to be satisfied with the replacement.

Good on Nathan for trying to make a customer happy, but I think you're being a little precious here. It's a bumper. It's designed to be abused. I don't know why bother powdercoating it in the first place unless you're just going to look at it.

Mine was scuffed up, but I just said f*ck it because it's a bumper and it's just gonna get dinged up anyway. I've got a nice big can of satin black Rustoleum for touch ups.

Got my bumper delivered today and no, I didn't escape any damage :/



Going to have to sand the entire corner down and repaint. Not going to send back, but going to send them the picture in an email and let them know. They really do need to put some cardboard corners on some of the parts that stick out like this corner here. :redbrick:

And yeah I'm probably precious too but a dent or scratch you put there yourself on the trail is a badge of honor. But if it's at someone else's hands, it really is a different feeling!

I agree 100%. I requested to Nathan that the entire bumper be wrapped when it is fixed and sent back. They should realize that these aren't riding on the truck alone and should be protected as best as possible. You know the freight company isn't going to be careful with them.

For comparison this is how my ARB Bumper came the other day:

Everything was triple wrapped inside. Bumper was Wrapped in foam, flexible cardboard then plastic wrapped. The unit was then strapped to the pallet. Everything was then put inside this big cardboard box and wrapped again in plastic.

That is how it should be. Or at least wrap the entire bumper and don't leave any painted surface exposed. I'm sure the shipping wouldn't cost any extra, just the shipping materials. But it would sure save on return shipping and customer satisfaction.
