Wow! So it's been 10 years and 37,000 miles this month since I bought my 4runner and joined this forum. How time flies!

Happy to see things are still active here and the 3rd gen community has been wonderful, proud to be a part of it! Thank you all!

The 4runner started life as my wife's daily driver, got stolen and recovered spanning the end of 2016 and beginning of 2017.

Got cleaned up and put back into daily rotation.

Finally, we bought my wife a new car in 2019 and I got busy modding.:naughty:

I've had a handful of cars come and go over the last 10 years and happy to say I still love the 4runner as much as I ever have and look forward to the next decade of 3rd gen 4runner ownership!

This was the last picture I took of it over a year ago and it is still exactly the same. I have a few maintenance things I need to knock out but all in all, what an incredible machine.

Still enjoying the 305s? I have folks egging me on to go from 285s to 315s
but I kinda like the idea of splitting the difference

I love the look of the size, they are pretty quiet and perform great off-road. But, they are heavy. Next set of tires I might size down and try and find a D load.

This is such a great build!! As a matter of fact, I'm really thinking about trying to find someone who wants to take on a great restoration/build of my 1997 Limited 4wd. I've had it lovingly for 24 years but it's got 400k and I just don't have the bandwidth to take on the resto myself. So trying to figure out a way to find someone who wants to take it on for themselves and not send it to the landfill for a very reasonable price.

It's been a while since I've updated this thread. In June I started dailying the 4runner again and made a few changes to make it more streetable.

Maintenance/updates include:

-New valve covers and gaskets
-All new drive belts
-Brake fluid flush
-Sonoran Steel upgraded rear body mounts
-New 285/75/16 Destination AXT tires (if anyone obsesses about tire specs like me, these are the lightest I could find in a 285 at 51lbs)
-New black and clear front lights
-2002 facelifted tail lights
-Limited emblems axed
-New silver painted grill to replace OEM chrome
-Paint corrected and ceramic coated

The new tires have been great, much better on pavement than the mud terrains and I've seen an increase of 3 MPG!

Don't mind the bumper alignment. I gave up on perfect after the body lift lol. One day a steel bumper will fix it.

I swapped out my rear LC80 coils and Tokico shocks for Bilstein 5500's and OME 890's and a 1.5 inch spacer.

I was hoping for a softer ride in the rear as I usually don't carry much weight in the back. So far I'm pretty happy. As a side note, I developed a squeak in the rear which turned out to be the top of one of the shocks. Squeak is totally gone now.:whoo:

Also did a few other things:

-Rebooted front CV's
-New OEM LBJ (see above)
-Front diff service
-New spark plugs and O2 sensors
-New PCV valve
-New rear heater control valve (just preventatively, wasn't leaking)

Hoping for a bit better MPG after above, will find out soon.

I didn't measure ride height before and after but it looks identical to before, fortunately.

Sweet looking runner! That's some good maintenance. You should see a mpg or 2 increase, but honestly probably won't. I did the same to mine a few years ago. It drives nicely but didn't increase mpg's.

Thanks! I'm not expecting anything drastic. I've been getting 12.5 mpg's around town. If I'm able to reach 13, I'll be happy

When I swapped out the STT Pro's for the Firestone's, I picked up a solid 2.5 mpg's!

Yes those sst pros are realllly heavy. Same with my baja boss. Next set I'm going cookie cutters (255/85r16 or 255/80 r17). Hoping for better mpgs.

The STT Pro's are heavy, but consistent with other M/T's in that size. I dropped 11lbs per corner going to the Firestones, from 61lb to 50lb.

We took the 4runner from Bellevue to Astoria this last weekend, and shockingly, I got 19mpg's going down there. I thought that must have been a fluke, but, I got 19mpg's going back as well.

I'm really curious to see what I get around town now. Also, all the mountain driving is really pushing more towards the 3rd gen Magnusson supercharger.

I am thinking the same thing too Magnuson super charger as well. But can not choke down the price tag at the moment, also the 7th injector/Tuning as well. But could probably do a modern v6 engine swap for that price too (think lfx).
