CD changer mounting in a 2nd gen?

Just bought a 10 disc changer for our '90 'Runner. I have it wired up and working fine, but the changer unit is not actually installed yet.

Why?

ITS TOO FRIGGIN' BIG!:upset:

I think I can make it fit in the driver's side rear storage well if I do some cutting and pull out the side liner wall. The changer fits in there fine, but the mounting brackets will not clear.

I am hesitant to do this as the passenger side leaks in the rain. It would really bite to have this side start leaking too and fry a brand-new changer.

It will not fit under either of the front seats. I ~might~ be able to get it under the passenger seat if I pull the seat and disable the slide mech. But then I'd have to pull the seat every time we want to change the CDs.

It is looking like an "out in the open" install above the left wheel well. For now, it is sitting in the box, padded with the packing styrofoam and bundgeed to the floor in the back. Works great, looks like crud.

Any suggestions please?

Thanks!
