CD changer via AUX adapter in 2006 4Runner

Can the auxiliary adapter located in the center console of a 2006 4Runner be used to connect a CD changer to the factory stereo? The manual simply says that it can be used to connect a portable audio device to listen to music through the speaker system. Another thread in this forum indicates that an Ipod can be connected using that adapter, but how about a CD changer?

If not, is the best alternative for adding a CD changer to connect a USA SPEC SCD-T170i changer, which I understand can plug into the back of the factory stereo using a cable adapter supplied with that changer?

Don't most Automotive CD changers output to RCAs? If so you'd need to convert to a headphone jack (not too hard or expensive). A drawback I could think of is that you wouldn't be able to control the cd changer with the steering wheel controls.

Thanks for the reply. RCAs? You're talking over my head. It sounds like your answer, though, is that it can be done without too much trouble. As to the loss of steering wheel controls, no problem for me: I don't have those anyway.

RCA plugs look like the ones your VCR uses (red, yellow and white). It has a pin in the center and a cylinder like ring/sleeve on the cable ends (male plug). They are the ones that just plug in, without any threads to screw on. The one with threads are coxial.

I assume I can buy an appropriate adapter at Radio Shack or another electronics store, then? More generally, it sounds like connecting a CD changer to the auxiliary adapter is simply a matter of using an appropriate adapter to make the connection. Assuming that's the case, are there any reason(s) why connecting a CD changer in this way is undesirable, e.g., the sound quality won't be good?

Yeah I bought it at Radio Shack for less than $5. That connection will be better than going through FM Modulation but I don't know if there will be any quality loss.
