Pretty much. Loose gas cap causes evap codes in ecm. Those codes cause an engine control code in the abs ecu. This may or may not be the problem but it is likely.

I checked the cap and it seemed tight. The rubber gasket appears intact and pliable. I'll drive the car to work tomorrow (25 miles 1 way) and see what happens. If it doesn't kick off, I'll have to get to the dealer because I head from Mississippi to Chicago on Thursday to haul my boat back to MS on Sunday. Nothing like problems before a trip. Better than during, I suppose.

it could be a few things,u need to find out what code it is, it may even be a dirty MAF sensor, u just got a "wet filter" cai recently , right? or maybe try this? http://www.toyota-4runner.org/probl...ac-vsc-off-lights-zero-point-calibration.html

But why would a dirty MAF cause the "VSC OFF" to blink and the slip indicator to be on solid? Just too weird.
I may pick up some MAF cleaner (or contact cleaner) since all my "stuff" is home near Chicago and I'm in Mississippi.
But since I have to drive back to Illinois on Thursday, I may just swing by the dealership anyway just to be sure. Crud.
BTW, how do we reset the CEL? I used to pull the EFI fuse in my '90 and '00 4R's but is that the same with the '08? There are 2 EFI fuses...
I may pick up some MAF cleaner (or contact cleaner) since all my "stuff" is home near Chicago and I'm in Mississippi.

Thanks, Chaz. I believe I disconnected the battery while installing the CAI in December. I'm going to hold off pulling the fuse since I called the dealership and they said they'd pull the code free-of-charge since I'm still under warranty and then we'll go from there. I'm going to try to get in this afternoon before they close. Since I'm leaving Thursday after work I don't want to pull the fuse now, have the CEL and other stuff clear and then pop back on with no time left to get it looked at before a 900 mile drive.

Wow, like CJ3Flyr said above. I'd have never thought...
The dealer will look at it in about an hour and hopefully that's all it is. I'll post results the next time I have internet access.

Sorry for taking so long to post but internet access is tough to come by where my new temporary assignment is. Anyway...
You guyz were right: GAS CAP. Actually, the tech said that his laptop stated it was a gross emmisions leak and, since the truck has only 21,000 miles AND that it doesn't appear that I tore up any lines under the vehicle he figures the gas cap. He reset the code, I tightened the cap and I've driven over the 7 miles or more-per-shutdown-in-3-shutdowns and no return of the code/lights. I've also put gas in it since and made sure the cap was tight (although, it seems that after it ratchets that it comes off easier than I recall so a new cap MAY be in my future).
