Cell Phone Charger Wired near Climate Control?

I did some routine maintenance on my 03 4runner and needed to replace one of the amber LED lights on a climate control knob along with the backlight for one of the heated seat switches.

It was an easy fix, but in looking up how to pull the climate control console, I came across a youtube video where I saw an awesome mod I have never seen before. The guy in the video had a cell phone charger that hung down through that little useless little tray above the cupholders. Has anyone else done this mod? I would love to free up my 12v outlet that I normally keep my phone charger in.

Skip to the 44sec mark for what I'm talking about. While the console was off, I looked behind the panel to see if there was any obvious place I could attach my charger. I'm limited in my knowledge of electrical components, so I probably wouldn't see it even if it was staring me in the face.

looks like the 17 pin connector for an iphone 4 from a USA SPEC PA TOY 15. You could totally just wire in a USB plug behind the dash. See my build for how I did it in a switch blank, but i'll just be using the cig lighter and replacing that. You can add a fuse from the fuse box or you can just tap an existing circuit for the cig lighter since the USB is so low draw.
