So last week I'm in reverse with a trailer and reach down to extinguish the back-up warning alarm, but unwittingly hit the center diff lock instead. This is followed by a loud "BANG", and I thought I had hit another car.
After confirming that I had not hit anything, I drive away and immediately notice a significant change in handling, along with an illuminated diff light (my first indication that I had hit the wrong switch). I disengage the lock, and it resumes normal operations after driving forward approximately 150 yards.
However...since that incident I notices a slight vibration through the accelerator, along with a small cavitation when driving at highway speeds. It does not impact overall performance, but it's not the same as before.
I'm a bit hesitant to perform diagnostics, so I'm curious if anyone is familiar with this situation. If engaging the diff lock while in reverse can damage the drivetrain, I'm a bit surprised that some sort of override does not exist. In any case, any comments & suggestions on next steps would be appreciated.
