Center speaker/surround sound with aftermarket head unit?

I've done lots of searches but haven't found a definitive answer. Can you retain the JBL surround sound and center speaker functions with an aftermarket head unit? I know I'll need the PAC TATO adapter, but will that still create the surround sound effect with all the speakers? I actually prefer the sound with the center speaker for watching DVDs.

CENTER SPEAKER WORKS FOR ME...
sounds sucks from all speakers tho.....

Did you leave the original radio in surround mode or normal mode when uninstalling? Does it make a difference?

I have no clue this whole radio situation is killing me
So many adaptors, wires,ect
I gave up and paid a shop to install it
All i know is it has sound from center speaker
My sound is worse now then with the factory radio
But i have bluetooth
And i would highly recommend not getting a radio that has a motorized screen to get to dvd slot
As mine is useless now

You will not have "surround sound" as in 5.1 like your home. Speaker should work though.

I had my Pioneer AVH-X2600BT installed today with the TYT0-01 adapter to retain the JBL system. I made sure to set everything back to 0 as far as treble and balance and all that and turned surround off before they installed the aftermarket head unit, as I researched many posts on this forum about it before the install. The "surround" JBL synthesis speakers sound exactly the same as they did when I had the factory unit in with the surround ON option. Now that the new radio is installed to me the sound is better than it sounded stock. I'm very pleased with it so far.

gets better when you play and find the right settings on the EQ and adjust the volume setting on accessories

I took mine out because it was getting real hot inside the dash and wanted better air flow, and I think it sounds better without that crappy little speaker in the middle. You don't get true surround sound with it anyway.

I'm surprised they installed it for you if it can't move to access the DVD slot. I had read on here and on Crutchfield that you cannot use a double din that moves. Mine is a 6.1" that has the DVD slot on top. My remote has a button for changing the viewing angles when watching a DVD but that is useless for my unit.

i didnt have them install any of the dash trim as i was running wires for the backup camera and cig outlets, usb ports and such....
i didnt think it would be difficult , but as everything in my world.....

Turn the surround OFF. I had to reinstall my stock radio and turn it off in order for my aftermarket Pioneer unit to sound right. like another member said ZERO EVERYTHING OUT - that is except for the volume. Make sure you turn the volume all the way up. You'll never be able to make your speakers louder than the last setting it was on when the stock radio was removed. Good luck!
