Certified Maintenance Question

Today I called the dealership to ask if when I bought my certified 06 T4R Sport (29k miles) the dealership had performed the 30k service. The Person I talked to said two things:

1) Sure they probably did. This seems a little sketchy of an answer to me but IDK if it being a certified truck would have made a difference. Plus I got the wrap warrenty thrown in to 100k miles anyway.

and

2) I shouldn't have to worry about servicing it until 100k or so, and that I had iridium plugs.

Does this sound right to you? I mean it'd be great to not worry until 100k miles, but that seems like a long time to me.

Well, if they did it, they should have records that they can pull up. They should at least have records of what they did to make sure it is in condition to be "certified". The label "certified" carries a premium price because it should mean that all maintenance is current and wear parts like brakes are above a certain tolerance. "Certified" also includes an extended warranty.

As for the plugs, the V6 has 30,000 mile plugs, and the V8 has the 100,000 mile plugs.

I'll take a look at the checklist they gave me. I was suspicious of the spark plug comment, so now I know.

If I recall, doesn't Toyota keep all maintenance performed on any vehicle by VIN in a database that's retrievable by any other Toyota shop? I know that when I bought my son a used Saturn the local Saturn dealership was able to provide me a print-out of all maintenanace done on that car including work done by other Saturn dealers.

Depends on the dealership. There is a single Toyota database for warranty repairs, but not necessarily for maintenance or other work. If the dealer uses a computer system that's tied in to other dealers, then it is possible for those other dealers to pull up the records. I think that in some parts of the country dealers are well integrated, but other areas are a little more disjointed. In the Chicago area, I've been to dealers that are connected, and I've been to others that had no idea my car existed.
