CGuava's Mild Runner Build

New to the forum, but not new to 4runners. Always had a love for these things. Finally decided to sell my old DD and pick up a 4th gen. Got a Limited V8 4x4. I bought this as a good DD, and for mild trails/camping to get to back country fishing spots here in CO.

Plans are:
Build front/rear plate bumpers.
Build rack
Build sliders

Might go with a mild lift and 285s. Going to keep the 265's for now until they are gone.

Anyways, here are some photos:

My first 4runner (1st Gen):

Then built this one (2nd Gen with 3rd gen motor):

Holy crap that has to be the sickest 2nd gen I've ever seen! Can't wait to see where you plans with the 4th lead!

What part of CO are you in?

wow! Those are BA rides!!!! I have to admit yours is the first crawler type I've seen built like that, looks cool though.....bet you get lots of looks!!! :surfer:

Castle Rock eh? Well 20 min south in Colorado Springs is where another 4th gen lives.

Rig looks good man. Should look awesome when you get that bumper on there. I may have to swing down and checkout your setup sometime. Need to figure out how the manufacturer's are mounting the bumpers so I can copy it.

Thanks man. The red one was a LOT of work. I like fabbing stuff though, so I had a blast.

This one I'm going to be very leary to mess with the suspension. I don't think I have X-REAS, as I don't see any lines coming out of the struts or shocks. I've "over built" some rigs before and they became a PITA to daily drive. I really don't want to mess with it here, but may have to lift it up a bit to clear 285's down the road. I'm sure the info is here, but what kind of MPG are you guys getting that are on 285s?

Started to build this thing: Some teaser shots from what I got going on, not quite done yet, but will be soon!

A little pre-weld up teaser. Currently, the grinding/welding is done, just need to decide if I want a grill hoop and waiting on my LED light bar to build a mount for it.

I like how the bumper has a little more of a rounded look than the other offerings out there. Seeing that liner in the wheel well really puts things into perspective as to how much stock bumpers cover.

Thanks man, that's the main reason I wanted to build my bumper. The available designs are just too boxy. I could have built on of those in half the time of this one though. Do I understand the appeal.

I like the more rounded design of the bumper as well, can't wait to see the final product!

Those sliders look nice as well.

Looking good Christian! I like where your going with the 4th Gen. Let me know when you want to test it out on a wheeling / camping trip this summer. I should have the camping trailer done by then.

Thanks all, it's been a lot of hours. i can see why they ask so much for these things. But I love doing it, and I have the tools, might at well!

Looks Awesome! I cant wait to see more pictures!. Do you think you will be able to make the Feb 11 trip?

Thanks man! Not going to make that one, I'll be in CA for KOH that weekend. Have fun with Rubi guy!

Jeremiah, your 3rd gen inspired me to build something a little more tame and non-trailered. Immediately after the Jambo I decided to sell my LGT and grab a 3rd gen supercharged, or 4th gen. This one came up first so I snagged it. Wheeling/camping this summer for sure. I'm in for a snow run too! Let me get this stuff welded on first, lol.
