challenge - turning off ATRAC

Hi All, I'm a current owner of an 85 FJ60.
I am planning to purchase a new 4Runner
to replace it. After driving a very simple
truck, going to a 4th Gen will be a bit of
a culture shock! One thing I know for sure
is that I will want to be able to turn off the
ATRAC. I know that is not possible via a dash switch. Here is a challenge to the more technical folks (engineers, etc). Help
me find a way to do this. I am thinking it
must use the ABS sensors for example.
So if I shut down the ABS this should turn
of the traction control also, yes? Anyone
have a copy of the wiring diagram, maybe removing a fuse would work. Hopefully
one doesn't need to unplug all the wheel
sensors! I know there has got to be some way
to do this......Just wishing I had a 4runner
to mess with now!

Simple solution...get the new FJ Cruiser. It has ATRAC on/off switch along with available rear locker.

Thanks for the data Thai. I considered
and FJ, I like the manual transmision
option, however, it is too small for our
needs. Turns out the 4runner is almost the
exact same size and weight as the FJ60.
Also it has been made since 2003 so used
ones are available. Since the FJ has a switch I'll explore getting the FJ parts
and installing on the 4runner. Thanks

You would want to get a hold of a wiring schematic for the FJ and see how the switch is wired in. Let us know so we could install a switch too.

When you want to have some fun in the snow. When stuck in snow or mud and nothing else has worked, sometimes you can spin your way out.

I agree, like I said I would like to be able to turn all that electronic stuff off and on at will.......one of the biggest thing's I don't like about my 4R.
 
Sorry to thread hijack, but I have another challenge:

Find a way to mount a push-button start from a Lexus or newer Camry/Avalon into the 4Runner. We already have the auto-cranking feature and the key transponder, how hard can it be?
 
Wouldn't you have to hold the key transponder next to the sensor in the ignition (and keep it there) in order for this to work? Our transponders in the key have a very very limited range (around 1 inch I thought...)

I've seen my key transponder light blinking just being in the car with the keys in the console...

Koz, So when you lock in the center diff. it turn's off VSC but not ATRAC ? I've spun donuts in winter with my center diff. locked .....sometime's I don't understand all this Toyo ele. stuff.

Anyway I'm going to play in the mud today:D
