Change Oil?

Question about resetting the oil change reminder light:

If I go through the steps to reset the light even though the light isn't on, will the reminder actually be "reset"?

My light coming on (at 5,000 miles) doesn't match up with my oil change schedule. I changed the oil when I bought the truck (used), and the light came on a few thousand miles later (before I was due to change the oil). At the time, I just reset the light. But now reading this thread I'm wondering if the reminder can be reset even if the actual dash light isn't on.

Any thoughts?

Just let it stay on until you change your oil. Then it will be in sync, unless you operate on a higher mile interval.

I think you can personalize the interval, but have not done ut personally. I run a 7500 interval on full synthetic so I have vmy trip mile b set to follow. When my light comes on, I run 2500 extra miles.
