Change to 8" IFS?

87 4runner turbo. I'm keeping the IFS, and am wondering if anyone can point me at any links or threads which talk about converting the 7.5 IFS to 8" IFS.

I'm assuming it's not simple or I would have found some links already. Or...

Thank you, I'd seen that one. It does not provide any meaningful details about interchanging an 8" housing with a 7.5" housing in the front.

It does talk about interchanging ADD 7.5s with non-ADD 7.5s

The thing I noticed was that the 7.5 is a passenger side and the 8 is a driver side, so I'd imagine that none of the bracketry would be compatible if flipping it were an option. IDK though, just something I noticed.

Worst case, I may be able to just replace the diff housing... Not as easily as on a unit where the tubes press in, but doable. I'll see if I break anything...

Not sure why you would consider this in the first place, the diff isn't the weak link in the stock IFS.

Interesting, thanks! Since custom axles are being made anyways, no reason the diff can't reside in the same spot as the original...

I've been reading up and, like this thread says, 7.5s can be a weak point. Interesting site, looks like the LN60 and LN61 are the Aussie versions of the firstgen 4runners. That'll help my searches.

I've broken more than my share of D44 axleshafts (front), it's feasible my 7.5 won't find me the easiest of owners either.

Exploring whether a Total Chaos Caddy II kit is the right way to go for me. Big bucks tho.

Glad I could help, we only ever got 1st and 2nd Gen Runners delivered to Oz.

People started bringing in Surfs 2nd and 3rd Gen, but the Goverment made it hard to comply them.

We now have the Prado and Klugger from Toyota. Bring back the Runner!
