changed alternator but will not charge now

so the other day i decided i wanted to go quadin so i wired my 4runner for a trailer and well only one light worked so i drove it anyways so on my way to the staging area i noticed the the rpms going up and down and it loosing power at this point i looked at the battery gauge and it was loosing battery life after a few min the thing died and i got a lift to the crappy tire and picked up a new alternator but now the stupid thing wont charge so im kinda thinking maybe it wasnt the alternator or if it was there their is a fuse blow somewheres other then the fuse box any helps guys and by the way its a 91 4runner with the 3.0

Alternator might be bad

So first thing to do is check the Alternator. The best way to check is to start the car (that is if you can) unplug the battery while the car is running. The engine should run on the alternator. If it turns off then it means you need to take the alternator back because it is broken. Where did you buy it? You can take the battery to most auto parts stores and charge it for free if you dont have a battery charger. Goodluck
