Changed oil 5.5 quarts shows low

Yep. I had to do 6.5 qts even though it said 5.5. Never really had any issues after that and the dipstick is showing top dot on level ground.

I have been buyin Valvoline large bottle, and then usually half of another quart. Maybe a touch more.

Wondering if the different filter companies vary slightly in how much oil needs to be put in. Anyways I ended up putting 5.5 at first which read below the 1st dot. Ended up putting another quart and half. And I’m good. No leaks, everything is bone dry. So must be the filter or simply 5.5 isn’t a correct reading.

Maybe I should swap a new engine ? Lol jk.

I wonder if it's a JDM thing though since we are in the same boat? Did your old USDM also take more than 5.5? Not that it matters that much anyway, you can run these engines on 2 quarts and it wouldn't give any issues lol!

I don’t remember how much oil I used in my old usdm. The jdm I have now has my usdm oil pan.

My 2000 takes 6 quarts to get to the full mark on the dipstick. My 98 takes 5.5 quarts to get to the full mark. Weird.

6 qts always got me close to full and that's prefilling new filter.

hate to diverge slightly on this thread, but it makes sense to post here rather than starting a fresh thread.

Question: How "deep" does the dipstick fit into the tube? I snapped the yellow head off of my original stick last oil change, so I got an OEM replacement from the stealership. The replacement came with the tube, but i didn't replace that as I only needed the stick.

Long story short, when I put the new dipstick in, It didn't seem to seat properly as I'd expected and remembered. I compared the old dipstick with the new one, and they're identical - except the new one didn't want to "seal" into the old tube. so I stuck with the broken one for now until i can figure it out.

Now between the old broken dipstick, and the new one I can't seem to get seated right, I have completely gone brain dead as to how far the stick "seats" into the tube. Both of them have a rubber gasket that I assume is the stopping point, but I'm so confused now because it seems like neither of them really want to seat well.

I would just use the new tube as well (hopefully it comes with a new O-ring). Not hard to replace.
