Hey all
I changed the oil in my GX this weekend. Went with the Valvoline Synthetic 5-30 type. Anyhoo, since the V8 runner shares the engine with the GX I removed the skid plate to get to the filter as many of you have mentioned. After I got the plate off, I noticed a splash guard and funneling area into a hole through the skid plate. It looks as if Toyota has changed the skid plate so you don't have to take it off to change the filter. The filter is at the bottom left of the engine, but there is enough space to get ahold of the filter to get it off and on. So, I put the skid plate back on and removed the filter via the hood. It drained into my bucket as predicted and I don't forsee that I will have to remove the skid plate again. Anyone else with an 06 Runner find this out too?
