Changin out a multimode 4wd t-case

Hey guys
Quick question about changin out my multi mode 4wd transfer box
ill be changin mine pretty soon as im havin alot of trouble wit 4wd engaging
and i got a good deal on one that i know is workin 100% perfect

Iv never done a t-case in a truck before but iv done hundreds of gearboxes in cars etc...wat im wonderin is there anythin i need to look out for wen pullin the t-case off the back of the gearbox??seals or gaskets or anythin like that?

also is there any seals or gaskets that NEED to be replaced while im changin it??

I've only looked at the SR5 transfer case, and it looked pretty straight-forward. Remove front/rear driveshafts (mark for reclocking) and drop off the tc.

Your local toyota parts guy should be able to tell you if there are any seals, or you can check the on-line T4R service manual.

Check all your switches before you change it out. Chances are the tcase is not the problem

ya iv looked at mine too an it does look fairly straight forward but jus wanted to know was there anythin hidden between the tcase an gearbox i should know about before pullin it out.

i know its not the tcase thats the problem i know exactly wats the problem is it happens to all the hilux surfs with multimode through lack of 4wd use
but i got a good deal on the knew tcase an it should be jus easier to swap out than fix the prob on the old one

They use RTV form-a-gasket between the transmission and transfercase from the factory so you shouldn't need to get any new parts to complete the project.

this part circled in red(dont know the proper name for it) is the problem the little gear wit the contact points inside an the selector bar that goes from it into the tcase...they get messed up if they're not used regularly seems to either get stuck in 2wd or 4wd or Awd(previous owner never used 4wd or Awd)...an most of the time wen you take the 3 bolt cover off to try sort it the gear falls out an if it doesnt go back in right you have no drive an i cant find any manuals or much info of any use on it so im changin the whole tcase

Does any one know if the bar inside the actuator is supposed to be in or out for 2wd also how to properly clock the gear in the actuator

This should help, Different tcase actuator depending on year, but should be similar, I don't think the gear position matters if both the actuator and tcase are in the same 2wd position, there might be index marks on the gear, or maybe the spines of the gear only engage in 1 position, but I'm unsure.
