Changing Motor Oil, need some advice!

Hello everyone!
First, I want to say how nice and helpful the members of this forum are, and the amount of invaluable knowledge I have found here. I have a dilemma with the motor oil I am currently using. I began using Penzoil regular motor oil since I purchased my truck two years ago. I switched to Penzoil SUV, Truck & MiniVan Synthetic Blend a year ago. I have 35, 500 miles on my $runner (V8)now and would like to know if it would be beneficial to switch to Mobil 1 fully synthetic oil. The oil I am using right now according to the Penzoil website is a synthetic blend, which I believe is not completely synthetic.
I am basically thinking in terms of protection and leaks as the truck gets older. I also don't know if it's a good idea to switch brands too. Thanks for your input!:driving:

Well, i'll say this, i don't have the scientific proof for oils... but i switched to synthetics in my dodge quad cab years ago... i only ran AMS Oil synthetic oil in it... i would do a oil change , change the filter with a premium bran FRAM... and the oil product says , drive it for 5,000 miles, change the oil, but the filter being changed is not required... then at 10,000 miles change oil and filter... i forget who it was , but maybe luxury, or momo or someone on this forum did some viscosity check with different oils... and got a feedback from some company about it...

i say change to synthetic... it all depends on how rough you drive your car and the temp outside... mainly, if it's hot or cold, you want the oil to maintain proper thickness... THEN, depending on how rough you drive your car, you want the oil to retain it's viscosity... oil over a period of time, gets black from inside the engine, all the smoke and crap from combustion chamber... when you oil gets dirty, the dirt is the micro abrasive stuff that causes wearing down on the piston walls and cam/crank shaft bearings...

just monitor your oil and never let it get low...

i run synthetic blend , castrol in my 4runner, only cause i have yet to find AMS oil here on Oahu yet, but when i do, i'm buying tons of it...

ANY/ALL full synthetic motor oil is overkill, so use the brand that makes you feel warm and fuzzy. Amsoil and Mobil 1 usually rank at the top of testing/comparisons.

It looks like Toyota requires a API SJ grade certified motor oil.

I like Redline, AMS, and Royal Purple. Castrol makes a good regular oil. It comes down to what your are willing to spend.
