Changing out the Tweeters

I was cruising through the Crutchfield catalog the other day (always terribly dangerous for the wallet) and I started reading about tweeters. I have aftermarket speakers but they're not component speakers; that is they're 3-way speakers so they have smaller cones built in. But what about these little ones that I've highlighted in the picture below?

Has anyone considered changing them out with the rest of your system? I never even thought about it because I knew next to nothing when I started rebuilding and I've learned everything since then...

Has anyone actaully changed them? What size are they? Do they have a simple harness? How hard were they to get at?

I did change them out. I used a component set in the front, but mine is a 6 1/2 component set. I was surprised with how much bass I got from this set. To my knowledge there are no aftermarket 6x9 components, so I had to modify a new harness for them.

Check out the Infinity 6800CS. This is a 5X7/6X8 component set. It's at least closer to the 6X9 components that toyota puts in the 4runner. I'm looking at putting new components into the front doors as well. For someone who did this: Where is the crossover for the speakers? Is it an inline passive crossover located in the door right before the speaker? Or is there seperate signals coming from the amp in the back by the JBL sub? I'd like to use the crossover that comes with the new component speakers.... it would suck if there are seperate signals for the tweeter and 6X9's. Any help/ideas?

I have seen a wiring diagram for the stock system with 6 speakers and the details are as follows:

This is for the 6 speaker system....

Harness behind the HU:
Gray=ACC Power
Blue/Yellow=Constant Power
Brown=Ground
Pink=Front Left +
Purple=Front Left -
Lt Green=Front Right +
Blue=Front Right -
Black=Rear Left +
Yellow=Rear Feft -
Red=Rear Right +
White=Rear Right -

For the tweeters in the Front doors:

Left:
Red/Blue=Left side + input
Pink=Left side + output (then goes to woofer + side)
Blue=Left side - input
Purple=Left side - output (then goes to woofer - side)

Right:
Red=Right side + input
Lt Green=Right side + output (then goes to woofer + side)
White=Right side - input
Blue=Right side - output (then goes to woofer - side)

I had my speakers replaced by a pro originally. Now I'm thinking about going back and re-replacing my Alpine Type S door speakers with some Type R's along with aftermarket tweeters since the type R's don't have as many tweeters as the S's. I'm not sure if there's a crossover built in anywhere but perhaps you can interpolate more from the wiring details.

If you are looking to replace the factory tweeters in the front doors. It would be best to replace them with a matched set with the woofers below. The factory junk can be replaced with midpriced speakers and sound great. When I redid my system I did not want to spend a fortune on a system like I did on my previous truck (Tacoma Double Cab) So when I went looking I found JL audio TR 650 CSI's and 600 CSI's for the rear. They are a 6.5 component set for the front and 6.5 coaxials for the rear. The crossover is inline so you do not have to hide a bulky xover in the car. The Price. $199 for the front and $100 for the rears. I added two Coustic amps and two JL 12w0's Along with my Alpine 9805 Head Unit (low price great features including 3 4v preouts) and XM tuner, and had a system done for less than $1500 installed from a local shop, that let me watch the entire installation. The system is very accurate and musical and can pound the neighborhood if wanted.
