Changing Spark Plugs ('97 4Runner V-6)

New member to forum.
I would like to change the spark plugs in my '97 4Runner (V-6). Plugs location buried under hoses etc looks like the procedure to be very challanging. Anyone with previous experience, please offer some advise on what must be removed from the motor to get access to the plugs. Motor has 90,000 miles and the plugs have been changed twice prior by dealer. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. FYI - V-6, auto trans and 2 wd.

Correct. Get OEM from the Toyota dealership. OEM has two electrodes.

Then use the link Rock Slide posted. It's a pretty easy job.

took me all of about 30 min total for the drivers bank, i just used some long extensions to get passed all the obstructions. As for plugs i switched mine out to NGK coppers, single electrode, no problems at all.

thanks!....so i got the NGK V-power spark plugs hopefully the right ones...

Do you think i should do a whole tune up new wires and caps etc??

i just hit 58,000 and to my knowlege it has not been done to my car..

well there isn't much to a "whole tune up" on the 4runner the drivers bank has wires to it, but the passengers bank is coil on plug. Wires are probably fine, mine look to be original w/ 117k on them and no issues. If you do decide to replace them, make sure you use a quality replacement as in go to toyota and buy the factory, or see if NGK sells a set for the 4runner as well. Only other thing i would do as part of a routine tune up is to clean the maf.
