changing the fuel filter......lil help please

hey guys when doing the fuel filter change how are you guys depressurizing the system? i wanna change mine out this weekend and would like to know what proceedure you guys are using....thanks

Just pull the fuel pump fuse and start it up. Let it run until it dies. You should be good to go then. Just be careful when you crack open those lines for any residual gas.

I just left the tank cap loose for a while and worked on a car that had sat all night. There was still gas in the line to drain in to a pan but there was no pressure to speak of.

Me personally I just crack the line and let it depressurize that way. It's only 35-45psi. It's not dangerous, just don't let it spray in your eyes. It's only gonna spray for a second then go to a drip, there not that much volume either. I've only done a couple hundred that way so take from it what you will. Quick and easy. Don't forget to prime the system after replacement or you could end up with a few miss fires. Turn key to on (not start) position for a couple seconds a few times then start.

You could remove the fuel pump fuse and crank the motor. That would relieve the pressure.

I always do this instead because it's easier. I just wait till the next morning. By then the pressure is gone. You will have some drainage but it won't spray. A rag will be enough to soak it up.

yeah im going to just start it and let it run and pull the fuse for fuel pump while its running and let it run for a bit, then change filter then key cycle it few times..... thanks guys

Sorry, scratch the pump priming. This pump only gets power when cranking and after start. Tested that while changing my pump last month. Brain fart! :toilet3: I wouldn't pull a fuse with power going across it. You might get bit but more than likely it will pop the fuse, and there goes $0.50!:sobbing:
