Changing to LED interior lights

I have ordered LED replacement bulbs for my door lights, maps and domes. The dome covers just pop right off. The door and map covers do not seem to come off easily. How do you get them off without breaking them?

The lenses should have an indention on the edge. Place a small flat head screw driver in the indention and pop the lenses out. Should be that easy, it was for me. The lenses are pretty resilient but be careful.

never understood why people decide to do this as it has little benefit.

you get the harsh bright white lighting kinda like those in a rundown lecture hall with fluorescent lighting.

there's little to no "energy savings" benefit. you're already driving a gas guzzling SUV.

there's no safety benefit.

i much prefer the warm lighting of the stock lighting setup.

i kinda agree, didnt want the bright white lights, so i went with amber to match the dash & stereo, i like it.

I changed all the interior lights to bright white LEDs and love them. I only had one issue, that was the front map lights. If I need to get some light while driving at night, it was blinding. So, I replaced the driver side map light with a RED LED, which provides enough light and doesn't affect night vision much too. If we really need the bright light, use the passenger side map white LED.

I'm on the fence for the reasons you state. I really like the clean and modern look of the white LED lights. However like yourself, the amber is a much softer light.

Great suggestion, thanks! I just put a down-firing 4-SMD red LED in the driver's side map light and like it a lot. All others are bright white (6000K).

I would agree except that the MUCH brighter LEDs are really useful for seeing what's going in the car. For example, loading and unloading stuff is considerably easier. It's clearly not about energy savings!

To you point though, one thing I love so much about the 4Runner is how relaxed everything is. The warm dash lights are great. No big LED screen to trigger your ADD.
