Cheap and Easy Keyless Entry?

Back in my BMW days, I installed a cheap $30 keyless entry system into my '87 535i in about 15 minutes with no electrical knowledge at all. The car already had automatic locks, which is what made this such an easy install. Here is the write up I used: Keyless Entry

I just bought a 1998 4Runner that does not have keyless entry. I desperately want it, and would love to install a cheap and easy system. I am not looking for an alarm or for the back window to roll down, I just want a simple lock and unlock function within 10-20 feet of the vehicle. I figure, since the 4Runner already has automatic locks, it should be relatively simple to splice into the system with a remote system.That said, has anybody made a diagram similar to the link above or can they create something similar for the 3rd Gen 4Runner?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you. So from this link, I see that on a 1998 Toyota 4Runner

"POWER LOCK RED/WHITE (TYPE B) @ 10-PIN PLUG, LEFT OF FUSEBOX"
"POWER UNLOCK RED/YELLOW (TYPE B) @ 10-PIN PLUG, LEFT OF FUSEBOX"
"DOOR TRIGGER BLACK/WHITE (-) IN DRIVERS KICK PANEL, HARNESS TO REAR OF VEHICLE"

So I'm a little confused about what the "Door Trigger" is. Also, is this the fuse box below the steering wheel? Is there any other location that I can find the power lock and unlock wire? Does anybody have a photo of these locations? Where in the kick panel and where in the rear of the vehicle for the door trigger? Do I need this wire to set up a wireless system? Anywhere else in the vehicle can I find these wire that would make it easy to hide the remote lock module? I am thinking the rear might be best, but I have no idea where to look. Thank you for any help.

Wires should be in left kick panel I think.

No need to connect the door trigger unless you want an alarm.

Did it just not come with remotes? I thought mine didn’t have it until I tried putting it into program mode and it worked.

I checked for a module and it does not have one. Plus I bought it from the same owner since 1999. He said it never came with remote locks, so I have no reason to believe it is just missing the key fobs.

Have you looked under the drivers seat (I think 96-98 were the same setup) for the connectors that the security system plugged into? If 98 is identical to 96 and 97 that may be the best route to follow if they are the same and you can score a used one with FOBs. (From eBay or a Craig's List part out)

I did, I looked under seat and by the firewall on the passenger side under the hood. No luck.
