Cheap Traction Device

I was in a store the other day, and I noticed this for $20:
Mr. Emergency ES428 Black 28" Rubber Snow n Mud Track


It looks like a cheaper and more compact alternative to Australian traction boards (which are 3-4ft long and cost around USD$200 for a set). Has anyone used this Mr. Emergency thing? Is it useful?

I'm sure that would be fine for most instances. I wouldn't expect it to stand up to repeated heavy use like the more expensive alternatives can, but I'm sure it'd be fine for a few snow storms.

FWIW, I used pizza boxes I found lying on the street to use as traction aids in this last storm to get out of a parking spot that had been snowed in.

I have two of these I'm planning on cutting up once I can get to them in the garage. I no longer have a motorcycle and they're only worth about 20 or 30 bucks used around here. Little heavy, but I figure they're better than nothing and they should work decent in a traction needed situation.

My dad has them in his explorer. They work alright. They help him get traction but in anything too soft, they just sink and dont work all that well. Not enough surface area to keep them "afloat" in loose mud or real soft sand
