Check Engine light and misfiring

This is my first post on this thread. I have a 1996 SR5 with 233K on it. About a week ago, I starting getting vibrations and a check engine light almost immediately. I took it to a local garage who replaced my original clutch in September. He has ruled out everything, but fuel injectors. Misfire in 3rd cylinder on every other stroke and an occassional one in the rest. His plan is to work up a quote on replacing some of them. Thoughts? Thanks!

Maybe o2 sensor?
My Jeep was misfiring and throwing the CEL when the pre cat o2 sensor went. I replaced it and it runs great. a good way to check is to unplug the one you have now and see how it runs.

That almost sounds like it could be a crank position sensor (if that engine uses one). Many with that vintage have to mess with O2 sensors and MAF sensors. Not that his diagnosis is wrong but it doesn't seem many here have to do anything with injectors. Does that have a distributer or coil-over-plug setup? If the coils are on the plugs move the #3 to another cylinder and see if the misfire follows it.

Again he's probably on to the problem; I was just trying to throw out some other ideas.

First get the CEL code it should help pinpoint the problem. Did the mechanic tell you what code it was kicking up to fire the CEL??
