Check Engine Light and window in back gate

My son just bought a 1996 $ Runner SR5, drove it one day and has the following problems. Check engine light came on and the back window in the back gate stopped working. Any ideas where to start in fixing these problems without going to the shop? Thanks

Gonna have to get a code for any help w/ the check engine light. Most of the parts stores will scan the codes for free in hopes that they can sell you something to fix it. As far as the window, i think its pretty common for people to accidently lock it and not realize it. If you have power windows i believe its wired into the lock for those on the drivers master switch, if not there should be a seperate switch on the left of the steering column. Consult the owners manual if you don't find the switch, and post back w/ the actual diagnostic code.
