check engine light came on

i got a 99 limited 4x4. right after i put fuel in the truck the check engine light came on. could this be caused by over filling or something wrong with the cap? i did not get a vacum woosh when i took the cap off. also is it possible to turn off the light or reset it without a scanner?

Go to Autozone and have them pull the codes. They won't charge you.
