check engine / power antenna related?

howdy, i recently pulled a bone head move with the 4runner. i never listen to my radio and when i had a new cd player installed the antenna started coming up whenever i started my truck. the guys said their was nothing they could do and that i had to deal with it. well after a couple weeks i finally just broke it off. idiot. surprise surprise, now i get that annoying antenna motor noise. which i've read a couple posts on the subject and i'm going to attempt to disconnect the power supply via a relay? or something. Anyway, a day after i yanked off the antenna my check engine light came on, coincidence? i guess thats my question. or did i just happen to aquire a second unrelated problem. so just wondering if there's anyway the two could be related. thanks

no way in hell the power antenna is giving you a check engine light...

Did you have a Pioneer radio put in? They only have an amp turn on wire and not a power antenna wire, in which case the power antenna wire in the factory harness would be supplied by the amp turn on wire in the pioneer harness.

Dang your good. i did indeed get the pioneer installed. Thank you for the reply. I guess i now just have a second issue to contend with. oh well, it's my first 4runner and i still love it anyway.

You could essentially put a toggle switch in line with the power antenna wire and control it manually... but that is your only option, and is more trouble that its worth. Can't say that I would've broken my antenna tho...thats a $40 fix.
