Hi-Performance Brake Parts for Toyota 4Runner's- Wheeler's Off-Road, Inc

Going for the "Centric Posi-Quiet Ceramic" front and rear for $43 and $29 respectively. Don't bother mentioning the sport diameter vs. the sr5/limited diameter, because I know, and I will measure to be sure before I order.

I think that would be fine a fine choice...

I will mention brake diameter You don't need to measure for the pads, they are all the same. You need to measure if you're buying rotors or calipers.

Concerns: Ceramics are a bit less sticky. They ATRAC may be slightly less effective, especially when wet. You have a locker though so not as big a deal for you as others.

Centric seems to be pretty good stuff.

Oh. Haha then what is the point of the bigger diameter rotor in some of the trucks? Bigger diameter rotors offer a greater mechanical advantage to slow the wheel, they offer more swept area and lower temps (all other things being equal).



Again, oh. Then what is the point of ceramics? Ceramics wear very well. They are a little rougher on rotors but not much. They rarely leave deposits on the rotors after a hard stop which helps reduce pulsing. They are very consistent, warm, cold, wet, dry etc. They almost NEVER squeal. So there are lots of 'good' things about ceramics. They are like a "jack of all trades". Lol I was looking for an upgrade, not a downgrade! Especially if they chew up my rotors at a slightly faster rate. Hmmm, must go research brakes now.

I'm pretty good with physics, but I don't see how having bigger rotors, with the same size pads (therefore the same surface area being swept by the pad) has a greater mechanical advantage? Other than perhaps the negligible amount of extra weight? Something I'm missing about mechanical advantage? Actually, now that I think about it, do the pads sit farther out? Like, away from the center more? That would then make sense.

And so then the ceramics would probably be worth getting, even for the little bit less bite? Particularly with 35's?

Just Bigger rotors will have a minimum improvement on braking. For best results, one must get a complete system (Big Brake Kit= Rotors+Pads+Calipers+Brake Lines).

That said, just bigger rotors alone will enable the rotor to dissipate heat faster, since they have more surface area. On normal driving conditions, it it'll be hard to notice the diff of only the larger rotor. but if you tow, off road, or load the car a lot, you'll notice more consistent braking over time without loosing brake power.

Results increase When you add bigger calipers with more pistons, better pads and stainless steel brake lines. These add ons improve Pedal feel, brake modulation and stopping distances. However, one must take into account added unsprung weight, if any. There are a lot of calculations that go into effect here for optimization. If I personally wanted to improve my braking, I'd start with Pads.
