Check out my new 4runner!

Hey all, just wanted to share my new rig with you guys. Will be building it up slowly as money is tight atm.

1999 Toyota 4runner 4x4 with the E-locker.

What would be the first items to upgrade?

I have already put the beast Tundra brake upgrade on along with some KYB Monomax struts in the front. (old struts were original) :faint2:

Also, my dad owns a mechanic shop and he said the rough country lifts are the cheapest route to go for a lift, but he said he has never encountered any problems. I do realize cheaper is not always the best and I feel like if I get the 250$ kit, I will be suffering ride quality and possibly breaking? I do not do any hardcore 4x4ing, just a few mud spots and hills near my house. Any thoughts?

Great looking 4Runner! Seems like you are off to a good start. One mod I would look at is a tranny cooler. It will help eliminate the risk of the pink milkshake. Also when it comes to the lift I think you are right on... do it right from the beginning. I had spacers up front for many years and eventually changed them out for a legit front suspension. There are many great resource here so take advantage of them. Good luck and again great start!

Looks good! I'm about $500 into my LC and Tunda coil lift. Just gotta put it on when I get the final pieces in.

I'm not a huge fan of lift, so if you're not ever looking for extra clearance (guessing you don't since the running boards are still on) I'd use that money towards something else. You could upgrade to a new audio system that's pretty decent for about $300, more if you want a sub.

Or you could SUPERCHARGE IT!!! :zoom:

Which LC coils did you get? How do you know what to ask/look for?

I know there are color codes for them, but it seems confusing.

I went with 9 wraps. I don't remember the color combo, but I can post it when I get home.

There's a sticky that has all the info you'll need for a lift.

Now thats what I am talking about! I dont want a huge lift, I am thinking of going about 3 inch suspension and slightly bigger tires. (265/75s) just for a meaner off-road look. I do moderate off-roading with my dad and brother behind our house we have a sick retention pond where a lot of my neighbors take their 4 wheelers and rigs.

Superchargers are around 2800$....thats alot of coin.

Speaker system

Nice job on the Tundra brakes conversion, I'm looking at doing that within the next year. I would suggest replacing the headunit, crappy paper speakers, and power antenna with some 3 way 6 1/2 inch speakers, makes an incredible difference for a small price.
HID headlights would also make that beast look menacing.

Good Luck!

What speakers do you recommend for the price?

2000 Toyota 4Runner HID Kit | XenonHIDs.com

are these HID kits any good. I read up on the retrofits and MAN thats alot of money for some headlights. (although they look cool!)

I have to find an order in which to upgrade things...i.e. suspension..bumpers..interior mods..tires..

My suspension is already good. Has new LBJs, struts, and brakes.

Speakers and HIDs are on my to do list...

anyone have any feedback on that website?

Welcome to the group

Solid platform to start with, looks good.

Thanks man, feels awesome to join the club!

I don't know enough about HID's to help you out there, I'm pretty new to modding 4Runners, just bought mine earlier this month. For speakers I searched around for another double din slot headunit to fit with a built in amp and bluetooth audio, I found a pioneer 720bt that looks great and works beautifully. http://www.amazon.com/Pioneer-FHX720BT-Double-Bluetooth-MIXTRAX/dp/B00MRL30N4/ref=dp_ob_title_auto The speakers I put in were also pioneer, and they were 300w 3 Voice speakers, 6 1/2 size (which is what you want for the front). I didn't bother replacing the tweeters in the holders, since it's only a one inch slot. It's a world of difference with decent speakers with a good amp and headunit. All for about $300 too (if you install it yourself)

Awesome headunit! Congrats on the 4runner! I know the power output of an aftermarket head unit and clarity it provides is a vast improvement over stock. so 6 1/2 is the front door size..what is the rear? I would likely do all 6 speakers (including tweeters). Those HIDs seem to be ok for the price.

i would start w/ the the bypass tranny cooler or new radiator, OEM lower ball joints, Inner Tie rods (if needed) and the fuel filter.

I think the rears were 5 3/4, but I would always fit my parts on crutchfield.com first, since they have these charts and sizings programmed into their database.

I pulled up a picture of my speakers - Pioneer TS-A1675R
Great deal from Best Buy for only $70
But if you're planning on replacing the tweeters, I would go with a different set with separate tweets, since the in build speaker ones are disabled when external ones are plugged in.

Nice 4Runner, looks like you have a clean good starting place. For the lift I wouldn't go cheap. Get good stuff and do it once and do it right. OME and Bilstein is what I plan to go with when I do mine. They're both good brands and make quality parts.

Don't get those HID headlights, they're gonna be crap. They'll look "cool" but are going to shine everywhere and blind everyone. The only way to get a legit HID setup is to do a retrofit with some projectors. That'll look the best, perform 100x better than those other HIDs, 50x better than stock halogens, and won't blind other drivers. I hate being blinded by HID headlights in halogen housings. You can look it up and find all sorts of information on why that's a bad idea and doesn't work well.

If you wan't better headlights without a huge price tag I'd recommend picking up a set of good H4 halogen bulbs off Amazon, because they can be had for a good price and perform better than the regular bulbs that are in there unless they are already upgraded bulbs. I got mine for $10 and they are way better than the OE style ones that were in there.

Make sure you do the mantinence first, like other mentioned. Tranny cooler, LBJ, any bushings, tie rods, timing belt and water pump, fluids, other suspension bits, etc and then start looking at the mods.

For the stereo I've got a single DIN kenwood unit I bought over Christmas and I love it. It sounds good even on the stock speakers and the Bluetooth is my favorite feature ever.

Did all that besides the tranny cooler, just did my right side inner tie rod because it had play, left side is fine.

Thanks man, I think I have seen those HIDs in the halogen housings where its a big white blinding UFO light looking at you eh? hahaha If thats what they look like then yea ill pass and work on the retrofit. Right now I have the ZXE bulbs that shine pretty white for the stock headlights.

I think I might go with the SS suspension set up when I am ready to do the kit. Seems like the best deal for the money along with the CBI bumpers. I FREAKING CANT WAIT MAN!!!!

I swear if I had about 20grand right now, this truck would be so legit.

I bought mine with the supercharger on it, paid about $1500 extra so I guess it was a good deal.

As far as audio goes, Pioneer and Alpine are you best bets for head units. I just bought this guy, Bluetooth, Aux input, USB, the whole nine yards:
Alpine CDE-143BT CD receiver at Crutchfield.com

If you lurk around a bit they will sell previously opened ones for even cheaper. Will also be adding this guy, bumps up the RMS wattage from 18 to 45:
Alpine KTP-445A Power Pack Compact upgrade amplifier for your Alpine receiver ? 45 watts RMS x 4 at Crutchfield.com

As far as speakers go, the best are going to be Infinity, Boston Acoustics and other high end brands. Polk and Alpine aren't bad either. Stay away from Kenwood speakers, Boss, or any of those cheapo ones. They won't sound good and get worse with time. Put 6 1/2" in the front and 5 3/4" in the rear.

If you want a simple to wire powered amp, take at look at this one:
Blaupunkt Blue Magic XLb 250 A Single 10" subwoofer enclosure with 250-watt amp at Crutchfield.com

P.S. with a bit of shopping around you can find all these cheaper.

I am running a 3/4 inch spacer in the front and a 1.5 inch spacer in the rear. The ride is much better with the 371k springs than it was with a set of TRD fronts and Land Cruiser rears.

You can fit 275/65's without a lift at all if you like.

Just took it out mudding for thr first time! I think i need to remove my running boards! http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/05/14/ca35024401c82d37ba5a81e057d50ad6.jpg[/IMG][/IMG]

371k springs? Do i just do a simple google search to find those? Or where do I get them specifically? I am always looking for better ride because its my daily driver :boink:
