The good thing about the 40 is that you can have both caliber with one gun! change out the stock 40 barrel and install a 9mm Conversion Barrel ($150) to shot 9mm and still be able to use the factory 40 mags with the 9mm ammo!!

Nice Sig Sauer there! I carried a Sig P-220 (.45 ACP) as a duty weapon when I was a deputy sheriff. I cannot tell for sure if the one shown above is a P-220 or one of the other models that fires 9mm or .40 S&W. They look very similar, you know.
The .45 ACP (P-220) held eight rounds in the 'extended' magazine and one in the pipe. The other duty magazines only held seven rounds. The unique thing about the Sig is that your first shot is double-action and then the subsequent shots are single-action; and the de-cocking lever is very nice.
My personal round of choice is still a 230-gr JHP Hyrdra-Shock .45 ACP, but I tend to prefer a Colt M-1991 (improved M-1911). It holds seven rounds in the magazine and one in the chamber. The Colt is single-action for all shots and there is no de-cocking lever. Definitely different than the Sig and definitely "old school" in comparison!!
I am a fan of revolvers for their simplicity and reliability. For personal and home defense, they're very hard to beat when there is a bump in the night.
In VA, those of us with a concealed-carry permit are free to carry any handgun we choose. That's kind of a nice policy, as lugging around the trusty old .45 in warmer weather may not always be the way to go when a .38 snubby is easier to conceal.

ive got my Beretta 92fs Vertec, Marlin 2000l Summer Biatholon, and a Rueger 10/22 rifle with a volquartsen barrel and Fajen Silhouette Stock

I had a S&W 40cal Sigma before a crack addict broke into my house, found it, stole it, and went on a crime spree with it. It really didn't do me much good when I wasn't home to use it 
In addition to a good quality quick-access safe, my next gun is going to be either the XD, Beretta PX4 Storm, or Walther P99. I'll more than likely get the XD since it's better priced. I also think I'm going to switch to 9mm so I can get more for my money at the range.

I really like it! I like it better then the G23 I traded in. I put 4oo round trough it since I got it 2 week now it is been jam/trouble free! excellent made and very accurate gun! My next gun for CCW will definitely be a subcompact XD eather 9mm or 40sw! I love the way they look and the safety it has compared to the glock.

I was bit by the bug, so I stopped by my local gun shop today to look at the XDs. I was very impressed with it. The guy there said he has shot both the subcompact and the 4", and didn't notice a loss in accuracy. I also like the extended clip for range firing.TRD04RUNNER said:

I think I'm sold! And I think I'll spend the extra money on ammo and stick with the 40S&W. Thanks for starting this thread, it definitely helped me find the right replacement for my Sigma!
