Maybe you have an O2 sensor that's getting cranky in it's old age. That's a wild guess.

I can tell you the VSC/Trac lights being on is normal. When the check engine light comes on those systems shut down. When the light goes out they work again. IMHO the reason it does this is skid control is reliant on manipulating the throttle and the brakes. If the check engine light is on the engine may or may not respond properly when prompted by the VSC/TRAC systems.

Welcome and good luck!

Try running various grades of fuel, or try a different brand station. The obvious would be to make every effort not to buy E10 fuel. When I was in Oklahoma city recently they had many stations that had signs out front stating "100% Gasoline".

What code is it throwing, you can go to autozone and have them pull the code for free.

Does it only happen right after you fuel. If so maybe your gas cap seal is rotted and not sealing. That would throw a code.

Pull the Negative battery cable over night that will make the computer reset most but not all of the learned parameters and it will make it relearn your driving style ect.. It may help.

You may need to have the ECM/PCM (Electronic Control Module/Powertrain control Module I am not sure what Toyota calls it.) reflashed at the dealer. There may be updated software/firmware.

Did they replace all the O2 sensors? I would think there is at least 4 an up and down stream for both banks of cyclinders.

I run almost nothing but 93 octane in my 04 and have never had a problem. I buy mostly Amoco Fuel, but I run almost anything in it depending on where I am at the time, costco, Sam's, generics it doesn't matter. I have over 88k miles now.

Good Luck

Thanks NCScott. I disconnected the negative like you suggested.Lights went out for about 30 miles! I live in a really small town...all (5) gas stations have ethanol in them. Closest one I can find without it is 11/2 away. What about adiing fuel injector care ?

I have never used any type of additive in my 04. I have used them in the past in previous vehicles Thou. You could try a bottle of Fuel System Cleaner, not just injector cleaner. Make sure it treats 23 gallons or more of fuel, and fill the tank up after you pour it in. It might help if you got into a batch of bad gas. Try and go to one of the other stations you don't normally got to for a while.

You didn't happen to say how many miles you have on it. V-6 or V-8. ect..

It's an 04,v6 with 85k on it. I have tried all the gases in town with the same results. The only time the lights stay off is when I can find gas without ethanol in it.
