Checking A/T fluid level (non-sealed)

A/V1

Ok guys. Thought I'd brighten your days with a stupid question... I also didn't want to dirty up another post with it.

NO WHERE in the owner's manual does it say how exactly to check your A/T fluid. I assume it's simply in Park, engine running of course, and the fluid has to be within the "wavey" part of the dipstick. However, do you have to run the shift lever through the gears stopping for five seconds then back to park? Or jump up and down rubbing your head chanting Black Sabbath lyrics backwards beforehand?

Yeah, I know it's probably the obvious one (Black Sabbath), but each one will make the level show a little different, I want to make sure I get the right amount back in after doing my flush.

Oh yeah, 2003 V8. Which has the dipstick (two if you count me :) )

Engine on, vehicle in park. It should be more towards the top of the wavy when hot (best to check at operating temp). Only shift gears to check if you add/remove fluid. You can if you want to though
