Checking oil pressure

How difficult is this to do.? I've been getting a flickering oil light at idle. Only after a long ride. Truck runs good otherwise. It's a low mileage JDM motor I had put in before summer so hopefully it's just oil pressure sensor which I have. Thinking of going to harbor freight and picking up the kit. Thanks

Not hard at all really, at least on the 3RZ where the oil pressure switch is handy and accessible. Not sure where it is on a V6. Hopefully in a nice place. My pressure switch was dripping so I checked pressure while I replaced it.

I used a harbor freight gauge also. Cheap enough and seems to work fine, with one exception. That is the adapter selection. I believe the Toyota needs a 1/8 BSPT?? thread on the sensor. The HF kit has a 1/8 NPT?? It is very close and can be gently used but it does not really fit correctly. Someone may correct me on terminology and sizes. I haven't thought about this in over 2 years. I did use it on mine with no troubles, just be warned it might not fit as expected. Maybe you can find a 1/8 NPT to 1/8 BSPT adapter. Again, I may have the terms and sizes wrong.

Then just follow the procedure in the manual for temps and RPMs. Good peace of mind. Mine was spot on. Only took a few minutes once the bits were assembled.

i had the exact problem. i just changed the pressure switch next to the filter and changed the oil with a bosch oil filter and the light went away. Sometimes it can be just a bad or cheap oil filter.

Cool I hope that's all it is. This happened with the first motor but that ended up with a bad crank bearing. It's due for oil change as it hasn't been done since may when motor when in. My mechanic friend used synthetic but not sure which brand and a fram filter.

Fram filter could be the issue. I think this has been seen before.... OEMs are not any more expensive. OK not much more expensive. I exaggerate.

Use a pressure gauge first to rule out any other possibilities. Do nothing else.

I've seen cheap oil filters cause pressure issues, when you check pressure change the oil and use an OEM oil filter(because spending $12 on an oil filter is silly) it's only $5-$6 in GA. oil pressure specs are engine at operating temp so if your gauge leaks keep a pan under it.
