i have steering wheel vibration when i brake, i have replaced the steering rack bushes but its still there, the brake discs are true, i have found a slight bit of play on the drivers side lower balljoint but i dont think thats enough to cause the steering wheel wobble, i could be wrong.

i have found lateral movement in both sides wishbone bushes, in not sure what is acceptale but the inner wishbone can be easily moved using a long pinch bar. will i need to take it to a garage to get checked properly as this play may well be acceptable as i am unsure how to judge it.

How do you know the brake discs are good? In your other thread you say that they "look true", so are you simply looking at them or have you actually had them properly measured and/or machined?

ill measure them tonight, the method i used was a pen tip firmly fixed to somthing, i am an engineer and i am quite experienced at truing things up, i could tell be the sound and by eye that the discs are true enough, i know this methos is not precise but its an easy way to determine if there is any distortion.

I had the same problem with the shaking it turned out that it was them rear drums!! I know sounds strange but had the replaced and everything worked great no more vibration! oh and if you do need new disc's up front get EBC and green stuff pads. there pad are great no break dust the pads and rotors I have on now are terrible so I will be going back to the EBC's

Here are the specs for the front discs.

Standard thickness - 22.0mm (.866in)
Minimum thickness - 20.0mm (.787in)

For runout, measure at a point 10mm (.39in) in from the outer edge. Use a dial indicator
Max runout - 0.07mm (.0028in)

If the disc runout is out of spec you can try removing the it and reinstalling it a 1/6 of a turn from original and then remeasure the runout. Try all six positions on the hub before you replace the disc.

i just checked the discs using a clock and they were fine, i have never heard of rear brakes causng steering wheel vibration.

the lower balljoint has about 0.010" (10 thou) of play vertically
