Chilitown for Perseid Meteor Shower Aug 12th

Thinking about heading back to Chilitown in Joshua Tree for the Perseid Meteor shower on Aug 12th. Drive up in the afternoon, camp the night, and split first thing in the morning before it gets too hot. Not only is chilitown far enough away from all the cities to keep light pollution to a minimum, but the hills surrounding it should shield the moon light for quite a few hours for optimal viewing. what's the coordinates? i googled chilitown joshua tree but didn't come up with anything.

prob cant go because the next weekend i'm heading to OR and need to do some prep work, but curious where this is!

Super secret coordinates. Hahah. It's where we had the big jt camping trip in March. South off the 62 and off to the side down gold crown Rd.

Hahah I'd be a little scared to google chilitown haha.
I'm running this by the wife and I think she's taken the bait lol.
This would be the first overnight trip for my 7 month old, and I'd be
In my 4wd man van( read Honda Pilot).

Hahah. Id be curious to see how the pilot does in the sand in the wash. That would be awesome.

I've taken it in snow, semi steep loose rocky hill climbs, and shallow sand it hasn't disappointed lol.
But it will be fine on the way to chilitown

I read the title as chilltown. I want to go to chilltown...

I'm hitting the Eastern Sierra's with a buddy this Thurs-Sun to get some Trout and possibly camping with the fam 8/19-8/20 so this one is probably out but I'll keep an eye on it in case something changes. I mentioned this trip to "the boss" and it got her attention. She's been wanting to get out there for a while since we've never been, and the meteor shower would be a good excuse to finally go.

You had to pick that day... it's Rosy's dads b day and of course there coming to our house this year and staying a couple days ...BUT all the more reason I should be gone for a night so they can have quality time together. Plus I cant contribute to any of the conversations anyways (which is awesome) since they speak no English and myself very lil Spanish ...haha so yeah I can pull that off.

Perfect! Glad I can help you get out of an awkward situation! It's not like you'll be gone all day, just the afternoon/night. Hell, if she's really gonna be pissed you can just go home, not like you're far, hahaha.

Sounds a lot cooler temp wise, but it's quite a bit further for me. Besides, Chilitown is nice and wide open for perfect viewing. My buddy and I hiked out to Mastadon peak years ago in August and hung out on top of that then hiked back in the dark. Weather was perfect once the sun went down.

I'll have to check the moon rise/set but when we were there in March the moon didn't make an appearance over the hills until almost midnight. It was seriously perfect for stars. With the wide open spot and plenty of space to spread out it should be awesome.
 
It would be a great place to view it. The wife is working that night. I'm definitely a maybe. I will know for sure at the end of the week.
 
Looking to be a nice little turnout. I've got some tw guys interested as well.

Son's of Biscuits! Man I'll be out of town for work training or else I would go. Been itching to go out. Lets plan another run weekend of 19th or 26th.
